Business telephony and VoIP for West Sussex

PSTN switches off on 31 January 2027. Stop-sell is already live on most exchanges. We move West Sussex businesses to VoIP handsets, Teams Phone or 3CX hosted — without losing numbers, call history or a day of trading.

PSTN switch-off

31 January 2027 is the end of analogue phone lines.

Openreach is switching off the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and ISDN on 31 January 2027. Stop-sell is already live across most exchanges — you can't order a new analogue line on most postcodes. As of February 2026, 500,000+ UK business lines are still on legacy services.

Leaving this to late 2026 is a plan to fail. Number ports take weeks, handset lead times stretch in the demand peak, and the last quarter before the cut-off will be a queue.

  • Audit of every line, alarm, lift phone, door entry and PDQ that might be on PSTN
  • Designed replacement on VoIP, Teams Phone or 3CX — whichever fits your calling pattern
  • Number porting planned and managed — your numbers stay the same
  • Broadband and router checked first so calls don't drop
  • User training plus a cutover weekend out of hours

What breaks at PSTN end-of-life

  • Analogue phone lines (single and multi-line)
  • ISDN2 and ISDN30 business lines
  • Fax machines, many alarm panels and lift emergency phones
  • Some older payment terminals and franking machines
  • Legacy door entry and building intercom systems

Not everything needs replacing — some alarms and lifts have IP upgrade kits, others need a full swap. We audit every device, not just the phones.

Pick your platform

Three ways to run business phones in 2026.

There is no single right answer. The call pattern of your business decides it. We'll recommend one, not all three.

Microsoft Teams Phone

Best for businesses deep in Microsoft 365. Calls, chat and meetings in one app. Add a calling plan to your existing Teams licence. Works on desktops, mobiles and dedicated handsets.

3CX hosted

Good mid-ground for traditional phone users: real handsets, softphone, a proper IVR and call-queue builder. Hosted in a UK data centre, per-system licensing not per-user.

VoIP handsets

For offices that still want a phone on a desk with line keys. Yealink or Polycom handsets on a hosted SIP platform, integrated with your CRM where it matters.

What's included

Everything we handle, end to end.

Number porting

Landlines, mobiles and non-geographic numbers ported to the new platform. Managed with Openreach so there's no dead-air window.

Call recording

Selective or full call recording for compliance — FCA, SRA or insurance requirements. UK-hosted with retention to match your regulator.

IVR & call flow

Menus, hunt groups, out-of-hours routing and voicemail-to-email. Designed around how you actually answer the phone, not a template.

Mobile integration

Single business number across handset, desktop and mobile. Take a call on the desk phone, push it to your mobile as you walk out.

CRM click-to-dial

Click-to-call and screen-pop from Dynamics 365, HubSpot, Salesforce or your line-of-business app.

Broadband check

A VoIP platform is only as good as the line under it. We test every site for jitter and packet loss before a port date is set.

FAQ

Phones, ports and the switch-off.

Will we lose our phone numbers?

No. Every number — landline, non-geographic, 0800, or mobile — can be ported to VoIP. Porting is a regulated process managed with Openreach and the losing carrier. Typical lead time is 10–15 working days for a simple port, longer for complex multi-site estates. We plan the cutover for out-of-hours so you don't miss calls.

What happens to our alarm, lift and door entry on PSTN?

Some have IP upgrade kits, some need replacing. We audit every device that might be on a PSTN line — alarms, lifts, door intercoms, fax, PDQ, franking — and give you a replace/upgrade list with costs. Lifts are the one people forget; BT has stopped connecting new analogue lifts and the 2027 deadline applies to them too.

Teams Phone or 3CX — which do we choose?

Teams Phone if most of your staff already live in Microsoft 365 and want one app for chat, meetings and calls. 3CX if you have high call volumes, a reception desk, formal hunt groups or a call centre pattern — its call flow and queue features are better for that. We'll recommend one after a short usage review.

Can we keep our existing handsets?

Sometimes. Yealink, Polycom and Cisco SIP handsets made in the last five years usually re-provision to a new platform. Older handsets and anything tied to a legacy PBX have to be replaced. We tell you which yours are during the audit.

How much does hosted VoIP cost per user?

Most West Sussex SMEs land between £8 and £18 per user per month for a user licence with UK landline and mobile minutes included, plus handset rental or purchase. Teams Phone calling plans sit inside your Microsoft 365 bill. We price per estate, not per list-price sheet.
